Can I scrape mercury fillings off my teeth?

I have old mercury fillings in my teeth. I want them out but I had this conversation with my dentist before and he is not going to remove them until he thinks they need to be replace. Can I scrape them out? – Brian

Brian – You should not attempt to remove the amalgam fillings yourself. You can do damage to your teeth in the process.

If you really want the fillings removed, you may have to visit a different dentist who is willing to remove the fillings and replace them with composite fillings.
