Dental Bonding Hurts

I had dental bonding done several weeks ago. Though there was a filling, most of it was cosmetic. My dentist thought it would be best to do it all at once. Ever since the procedure my teeth have been overly sensitive. It also hurts on one side every time I bite. I did call the office and told them what was going on but they assured me I just was not used to bonding yet. I don’t get it. It’s been weeks. Shouldn’t I be used to it by now?

Dear Greg,

A chipped tooth before and after dental bonding

I’m disappointed your dental clinic is just saying you will get used to it. Unresolved pain should never be ignored. I think you need to call your dentist and tell them they need to look at this. At the very least they should have tried adjusting the filling. It’s possible that the dental bonding just needs to be smoothed out a bit. If there is excess dental bonding it can cause your teeth to bang together unnecessarily. This will cause some of the pain you’ve been experiencing.

If they leave this it can cause further damage and throw off your bite. If it were just an irritated tooth, that would resolve itself by now. Another possibility is that there is further decay under the filling that may require some further treatment. If they won’t look at you, I would like you to find a dentist who will. There are dentists who will see new patients in urgent situations. You can often find them by looking up the term emergency dentist.

If it comes to that. I suggest you find another dentist as well. One that understands dental bonding.
