Dental Implant Disaster

I paid a small fortune for a full-mouth reconstruction–about $38k. There were several teeth extracted and dental implants placed. the rest of the teeth were crowned. Since getting the procedure about two years ago, the crowns have been falling off. At first, he would replace them, but in recent months, I haven’t been able to reach him. I just learned that he moved to another country without even telling his staff. I’ve got eleven crowns that have fallen off and eating is unbelievably painful. At best there are stubbed teeth there. At worst it is just something for the implant. I am at a loss as to where to go from here.

Dear Steven,

Dental Implants

It sounds like this dentist knew he’d botched your case (and possibly other cases as well) and did not want to be held accountable. If he skipped the country, there is very little you can do to recoup your money. At this point, the only thing you can do is have the case redone.

On that point, I want to make sure you look for a dentist with post-doctoral training in dental implants. Additionally, you will want his or her success rate to be about 97% or higher. You also want to make sure they do careful diagnostics, including a CT scan. Your case is now more complicated than most, so no short cuts.

Be certain to check their online reviews as well. It is always a good idea to get a peek at what other people’s experiences with him or her had been.

I know you are already out a lot of money, but don’t look for a cheap dentist to fix this. You will likely end up in a worse situation than you are in. Find a successful dental implant dentist and then explain the situation. They may be willing to work with you financially to help you get back where you can eat again.
