Can dental implants be removed if I don’t like them?

I have been thinking about getting dental implants but I am nervous because they are permanent.  I don’t want to regret it. What if I change my mind or don’t like them? Can dental implants be removed if a patient doesn’t like them? Thanks Sloane

Sloane – Think of a dental implant like a natural tooth. If you have a sound, beautiful natural tooth, would you want the tooth extracted? That’s something you wouldn’t even consider.

If you receive quality dental implants and have them placed by a skilled implant dentist, you will not regret the decision. Dental crowns are attached to the implant fixtures. A cosmetic dentist will help give the crowns a lifelike appearance. People will think the implants are your own natural teeth.

You can avoid regrets or changing your mind about dental implants by carefully selecting your implant dentist. Find two or three skilled cosmetic dentists who are also skilled implant dentists, or who work with an experienced oral surgeon to place the implants.

Schedule a consultation with each cosmetic dentist to discuss your options, and to find out what is done to ensure quality and the success of your implants. Ask how many dental implant cases like yours the dentist has completed. Ask to see before-and-after pictures of patients for those cases. Ask what if any problems arose, as well as how they were resolved. Do the smiles you see in the pictures look natural? These steps will help you be confident about the results you will get, and reduce most or all of your anxiety about having the implants removed.
