How Long Does It Take For A Loosened Tooth To Strengthen Back?

One of my lower front teeth feels a little loose and my gums are swollen a little. I am flossing, brushing, and using mouth wash. How long does it take for the tooth to strengthen? Thanks for easing my mind.

Thanks, James

Dear James,

If you have a loose tooth it could be an indicator that you may have gum disease. Periodontal disease/gum disease is when the bone starts to deteriorate around the teeth causing them to become loose. When was the last time you had a dental cleaning? The best way to prevent teeth from becoming loose is to have routine dental cleanings at least twice a year as well as brushing and flossing daily. We recommend you visit your dentist and have a periodontal exam as well as dental x-rays for an evaluation to find out what is going on. If you do have periodontal disease your dentist will recommend a deep cleaning to remove all the debris from your teeth. This in turn will cease the disease process and teeth that are slightly loose usually tighten back up.
