Is a Dental Bridge or Partial More Affordable?

I need some guidance. I lost two teeth, one on either side of my mouth and my dental insurance around the same time. Because of that, I am trying to decide on the best option. Should I get a partial denture for each tooth or a bridge for each tooth. I don’t know which is more affordable or if there are big differences between the two. Help!

Dear Marnita,

It is tough when you lose the insurance you need right at the time you actually need it. I am sorry you are in this position. Let’s see if I can’t help you make a good decision, though.

A Dental Bridge

It will then be permanently bonded on with dental cement. Once completed, you can brush and floss your teeth as normal. The cost will vary depending on the materials used as well as from dentist to dentist, each of whom sets their own prices.

A Partial Denture

Unlike the bridge, there is no dental cement used and it is completely removable. You will not find it as secure as a bridge. They do cost less upfront. However, they will need adjustments and repairs from time to time so you may want to factor that into your decision making process.

Ultimately which you get is up to you. The bridge is a better replacement but more expensive. Plus, it requires placing dental crowns on the two adjacent teeth which may be perfectly healthy. If you want the bridge but are worried the out of pocket expense would be too much, I would consult with a dentist who advertises as an affordable dentist. They are usually willing to work with patients on payment plan options.
