Are no Lumineers at all better than a Groupon for Lumineers?

Are no Lumineers at all better than a Groupon for Lumineers? I’m just wondering how high the risk is of making a disaster of my already bad-looking teeth. They are not my top choice for veneers but this is affordable. I don’t want to go into debt to make my teeth look better. So this might be a good option. I’m not desperate, but neither do I want to pass up something that could really be right for me, and affordable, too. Lumineers seem to be pretty straightforward. Could anything go terribly wrong? Brianna

Brianna,

There are several things you should know before you buy a Groupon for Lumineers, porcelain veneers, or any other type of cosmetic dentistry.

  1. Before you purchase Lumineers, you should find out if you are candidate for them or any other type of porcelain veneers. If you purchase the Groupon first, you’ll probably have to take the loss if you don’t qualify for veneers.
  2. What information is available from the Groupon about the skill and training of the cosmetic dentist who will be placing them? Any type of cosmetic dentistry requires a trained artist to produce a beautiful, natural-looking smile. You could end up very happy with the results and have to pay more money to have the Lumineers replaced.
  3. Lumineers are not straightforward. It’s actually difficult to make them look like your natural teeth. Although they are ultra-thin, they often look bulky or pasty. Only a skilled cosmetic dentist can produce lifelike results.

The best way to get a quality smile makeover is to find two or three cosmetic dentists, schedule consultations with them, and compare your options. Depending on the skill and training of the dentist and the condition of your teeth, another brand might work better.

This doesn’t mean that the Groupon is a bad idea, but the risk increases when you don’t know anything about the source of the discount. You really need to do some research on the dentist, his or her training, and what the discount really covers. Don’t skip consultations with other dentists. Knowing all of your options can help you make a confident decision that you won’t regret later.
