Ordering Dental Implant Parts Online

I have snap-on dental implant dentures. The kind with four posts. I need to get locater retention caps. I see you can purchase them online for a set of four for $20. My dentist is charging me $30 for just one of them. I’m having trouble with finances right now and am wondering if there’s any way to get the sets if you’re not a dentist?

Dear Carl,

Snap-on Dentures

First, I’m glad you went with snap-on dentures, rather than complete removable dentures. You’ll find these are much better for you and will help you avoid facial collapse.

It’s a shame your dentist is charging so much for this. I think you have a few options here. While there is overhead, this makes up a small amount of how that cost would be made up, I think you may find your dentist would be willing to work with you. That would be my first suggestion. I’d just talk to your dentist about your current financial situation. It may be or she is willing to work with you.

Second, you could call around to other offices in your area. Most dental offices are staffed by compassionate doctors and staff. It’s not usually the dentist who orders these but the staff anyway. I bet you’d be able to find someone who is willing to help you out. There are affordable dentists who are out there.

If neither of those options work out for you, you could try eBay. I see there are overseas suppliers who are selling implant locator caps and not asking for dental credentials. They are also selling them for about $20 a set. The problem with this is you will need to know exactly what you need.

There are different levels of resistance in retention caps from soft to firm. You’ll also need to know how to place them if your dentist isn’t willing to help with that.

Honestly, though, I think you’ll find someone willing to work with you. In fact, you may find a new dentist in the process if your dentist refuses.
