Supersmile & Dental Bonding

I have two questions with regard to Supersmile and Dental Bonding. I had a tooth gap that was fixed with dental bonding. Since then, the bonding has picked up stains. 1. Will Supersmile Accelerated Whitening whiten bonding? 2. Does the toothpaste work to whiten teeth and bonding?

Dear Kevin,

I am actually going to start with your second question. Supersmile Whitening toothpaste will remove the stains from your teeth from the very first use. This is actually the ONLY whitening toothpaste I would recommend.

Unlike other whitening brands that you would purchase, this doesn’t damage your teeth. Other kinds of toothpaste that claim to be whitening, actually use an abrasive to remove your stains. This has the unfortunate side effect of also etching your teeth, which not only dulls them, but also causes them to stain more quickly.

Supersmile, on the other hand, uses the Calpron enzyme. This dissolves the protein pellicle layer that covers your teeth. Stains attach themselves to this pellicle and are removed along with it. It is a great, safe way to brighten your teeth and is perfectly safe for dental work such as dental crowns, dental bonding, and porcelain veneers.

Your second question is a tad more complicated. The Accelerating kit adds a peroxide whitening ingredient to help whiten your teeth in addition to removing the stains. Whether that will work on the bonding, depends on the type of staining your dental bonding has developed.

If you are talking about stains that have developed on the surface of bonding that still has its glazing, then yes, Supersmile will be great.

If, however, the polish has been damaged on your bonding, then no amount of teeth whitening will help, not even professional teeth whitening. In that case you would need to have it repolished or re-done.
