Toothache after root canal and crown

If I had a root canal  and crown done in June should the tooth still hurt? – Jason

Jason – There are several things that may explain the pain you are experiencing in your tooth.

The root of the tooth may be cracked. You can see an endodontist—a specialist in root canal treatment—to examine your tooth. If the root is cracked, the tooth is not repairable and will need to be extracted.

You may unknowingly grind your teeth at night, in which case, you would have a toothache. Your dentist can examine your teeth for signs of tooth grinding.

It is possible that the crown on your tooth is not in the correct position. If it was placed too high, when pressure is put on the tooth, for instance when chewing, it can cause pain.

We suggest that you visit both your dentist to check the crown, and an endodontist to determine if the tooth is infected again, or if there are issues with the root canal treatment.
