Will insurance cover my dental implants?

I have some problems with my upper teeth. I am missing three teeth in the back and I also have a dental bridge that probably needs to be replaced. In fact, it would be nice to have all of my teeth on top replaced. I really think it’s time for a permanent denture implant.

It is also worth mentioning that I have struggled with gum disease for quite awhile which means I go in for root planing and scaling. I have tried a partial denture plate but I really didn’t like it because it seemed to make me gag. I also had difficulty eating with it.

I’m ready to take care of these issues and get an estimate for the work to be done. Do you know if my medical insurance would assist in covering the work?

Dear Cynthia,

Dental implants have many advantages. One that you may particularly interested in is the fact that there is no extra hardware that is in your mouth like with a removable partial denture. Many people that are prone to gagging struggle with the plate that dentures have. Not only are implants a permanent solution to missing teeth, they look just like your natural teeth, and they prevent facial collapse.

In regard to your medical insurance, it is unlikely they will cover anything related to what you have described. Although, your dental insurance may assist in covering certain treatments or part of them at least. Many people think that since their teeth are affecting their general physical health that their situation may qualify for support through their medical insurance. But, most policies exclude dental problems. The only thing that your medical insurance will cover is dental damage that may have occurred in an accident. For example, if you fall down and break a tooth then it may help you.

I hope this information was helpful in answering your questions.

Best of luck to you.
