Did you know that going to the dentist is one of the most common fears that people have? Some people may experience sweaty palms or an accelerated heartbeat during an appointment. While others dread going to the dentist and even lose sleep over it.
If this sounds like you, we want you to know that we understand what you are going through. We make every effort to cater to cowards by making your dental experience as comfortable and most importantly pain-free as possible.
How We Cater to Cowards
We have several gentle dentistry techniques that we use to make your visit as pleasant as it can be. We have learned that different things work for different people.
Sometimes it is all about communication. Dr. Collins will listen to your concerns and work with you to help overcome any anxiety you have. He will work slowly and if at anytime you encounter discomfort, simply let him know so he can proceed more gently.
If you are scheduled for a treatment that requires an injection, we use a topical anesthetic on the injection area. This numbing agent is wiped on the gums so you don’t even feel the injection.
For others, a simple distraction will take your mind of the treatment. Every room has a television, stereo headphones, as well as video access for use during your appointment. For kids, popping in their favorite movie while we are working on their teeth works wonders.
Sedation Dentistry
If you are looking for something stronger, you may be interested in our sedation dentistry techniques.
Nitrous oxide is a mild gas that helps you relax. It is breathed in while wearing a mask and wears off almost immediately after it is turned off.
Oral sedation is another option that may help in dealing with your dental fear. It is safe and simply involves taking a pill before your appointment. You will become sleepy and indifferent to what is going on. Some patients may not even remember the procedure.
