Can the look of my dentures be changed?

I’ve been wearing dentures for 18 years. A month ago I got new dentures that I paid a lot of money for and I was told that I would get and I was expecting to get a smile that did not look fake. Not only are the teeth a pure solid white they are round on the edges like a bowl. Whose teeth look like this? I have come in contact with some rude people who actually tell me what round teeth I have. Sounds like a story out of the three little pigs – what round teeth you have. I refuse to cry but I want my dentures to be modified somehow. What are my options for squaring out the denture teeth? Lyman

Lyman – Your dentures are new, so our recommendation is that you speak with your dentist and let him or her know your concern about the look of your dentures.

Crafting custom dentures that fit well and look natural requires a skilled cosmetic dentist who works with a lab that produces beautiful results. It is very difficult to make adjustments in the appearance of your dentures once they have been made. Drastic changes will damage the dentures.

Find out what your dentist is willing to do to ensure that you are happy with the look of your new smile. A skilled ceramist may be able to help your dentist find ways to make slight improvements in the look of your dentures, but they may need to be completely remade.

If your dentures need to be remade, insist on seeing a mockup of the dentures before they are made. You may want to take your own photos of the mockup to recall how it was presented to you. You should also have to ask questions about denture color and what will be done to ensure it looks natural. If you lack confidence that you will get the smile you want, schedule a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dentist for a second opinion.
