Is Sav-a-Tooth Legitimate?

I am in the middle of getting an emergency preparatory kit ready. I came across this thing called Sav-a-Tooth. I didn’t know if it was a legitimate thing and worth getting or not. I don’t want to waste money.

Thanks,
Kevin

Dear Kevin,

Sav-a-tooth

It’s great that you’re trying to be prepared. I’ve looked at this and it seems to be a good product. This product is designed to help you save a tooth which has been knocked out. The key to saving any tooth is to keep the ligament as healthy as possible. NEVER clean the tooth, especially the ligament, yourself. There is too great a risk you will damage the ligament. Ideally, you want to get to the dentist within 30 minutes. This is considered a dental emergency. One suggestion I have is for you to call the office ahead of time in order to let them know what situation you are in. This allows them to be ready for you when you arrive, giving you the best chance to re-attach the tooth.

How Does Sav-a-Tooth Help with a Dental Emergency?

This has a special solution which helps to preserve the ligament. They say the solution can preserve the tooth for as much as 24 hours. I think that is a bit of a stretch, but it will certainly give your tooth its best shot.

If you don’t have access to Sav-a-Tooth, I will suggest you gently hold the tooth by the crown, which is the visible part, then place the tooth in a cup of milk or, if that is not available, carefully place it between your gums.

Sometimes we are able to get to a tooth fast enough to permanently reattach it. Other times, we think we’ve accomplished it, but after a period of time it experiences absorption and falls out.

What to Do If Your Tooth Cannot Be Saved?

It is always important you try to save a tooth which has fallen out. Otherwise, the teeth will begin to drift into the open position and couple possibly tip, leading to TMJ the need for braces or expensive TMJ Disorder problems.

Fortunately, there are great tooth replacement options. The top of the line replacement would be to get a dental implant. This is like having a healthy, natural tooth back in your jaw again. You’ll never know it was false tooth. This does require you go to a dentist who is experienced in dental implants. Hopefully, if your tooth is preserved that will be unnecessary.
